Coronavirus Update Feb. 28, 2020: Monitoring ongoing

UCCS Wellness Center staff are working closely with partners at El Paso County Public Health and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to monitor the ongoing cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) throughout the world. To date, there are still no confirmed cases in Colorado.

According to Stephanie Hanenberg, senior executive director of health and wellness, “Given the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's encouragement for Americans to prepare for the arrival of the virus as it moves into other countries, UCCS Wellness Center staff remain diligent in monitoring the situation and working with campus partners and leadership on proactive measures, as well as a response plan should any cases arise on campus.”

“The best prevention remains frequent handwashing, covering your cough and sneezes, and staying home if you’re feeling sick.”

UCCS has a history of managing an infectious disease outbreak during past pandemic flu seasons and maintains infectious disease management plans that have been reviewed with El Paso County Public Health.

We are working closely with students in study abroad programs to evaluate their local situations. University-sponsored student travel to countries identified as CDC risk Level 2 or 3 at the time of travel will be cancelled. Faculty and staff university-sponsored travel will remain at the discretion of the traveler.

Students, faculty and staff who plan to travel during Spring Break should consult with the CDC for the latest travel advisories prior to departing.
